Target Information
Porcine phosphate regulating endopeptidase homolog X-linked (pPHEX) is an X-linked membrane-bound glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in the regulation of mineralization and phosphate homeostasis in the body. This endopeptidase is particularly important for the development and maintenance of healthy bones and teeth, as it modulates the levels of phosphorus, a key component of hydroxyapatite, the primary mineral in bone. pPHEX is involved in the proteolytic processing of various substrates, including fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), a hormone that regulates phosphorus and vitamin D metabolism. By cleaving FGF23, pPHEX helps to control the renal reabsorption of phosphorus and the activation of vitamin D, thereby maintaining the balance of these essential elements.
