Target Information
Porcine protein kinase C (pPKC) is a family of serine/threonine-specific protein kinases that play a critical role in cellular signaling pathways. These enzymes are involved in a multitude of cellular functions, including proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and the regulation of immune responses. The PKC family in pigs comprises several isoforms, each with distinct substrate specificities and cellular localizations, reflecting their diverse roles. pPKC isoforms are activated by a variety of stimuli, such as phorbol esters, diacylglycerol, and calcium, which are indicative of their involvement in signal transduction from the cell membrane to the nucleus. They are also implicated in the modulation of gene expression, through the phosphorylation of transcription factors and other regulatory proteins.
