Target Information
Borrelia burgdorferi CRASP-2, also known as BBA16 or an Elp (Erp-like) protein, is a member of the Erp (OspE/F-related) family of proteins in the bacterium that causes Lyme disease. CRASP-2 is expressed during the tick phase of the bacterium's life cycle, similar to CRASP-1, and contributes to its immune evasion strategies. This protein is implicated in the bacterium's ability to interact with the host environment and modulate the host's immune response. CRASP-2 may participate in the acquisition of complement regulators from the host, similar to its function as a surface protein that can bind to host proteins and potentially protect the bacterium from being cleared by the immune system.
