Target Information

Cryptosporidium parvum has zoonotic potential, and infections occur in both developed and developing countries. The parasite primarily resides in the epithelial cells of the small intestine and is transmitted through the ingestion of oocysts, which are the infective stage of the parasite. The infection can result in symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, and fever. Cryptosporidiosis is often self-limiting in healthy individuals, but it can be more severe and prolonged in people with compromised immune systems.
