Target Information
Bovine fibrinogen beta (FGB) is a subunit of the fibrinogen molecule, a soluble plasma glycoprotein synthesized in the liver. It plays a critical role in blood clotting by forming fibrin clots upon activation by thrombin. Fibrinogen also regulates the activation of NF-κB in endothelial cells, leading to the upregulation of inflammatory chemokines such as MCP-1 and IL-8. Defects in the FGB gene can cause congenital afibrinogenemia, a disorder characterized by severe bleeding due to the absence or extremely low levels of plasma fibrinogen.
