Target Information
Pasteurella multocida toxin, specifically the dermonecrotic toxin (DNT), is a key virulence factor produced by Pasteurella multocida, a bacterium known to cause a range of diseases in animals, including atrophic rhinitis in pigs and fowl cholera in birds. DNT is a potent cytotoxin that can cause tissue necrosis and contribute to the bacterium's pathogenicity. This toxin targets host cells by binding to specific receptors and then internalizing into the cell, where it interferes with cellular processes, leading to cell death and tissue damage. The dermonecrotic effect of the toxin is characterized by the formation of skin lesions, which can be a hallmark of P. multocida infections.
