Porcine AMP-activated protein kinase alpha 1 and 2 (pAMPKα1/2) are catalytic subunits of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) complex, which acts as a cellular energy sensor and plays a crucial role in maintaining energy homeostasis. AMPK is allosterically activated by an increase in the AMP-to-ATP ratio, which indicates low cellular energy levels. Once activated, pAMPKα1/2 modulates various metabolic pathways to promote energy production and reduce energy consumption.
