Target Information
African swine fever (ASF) is a highly contagious and lethal viral disease that affects both domestic and wild pigs of all ages. Its severe impact on pig populations can lead to shortages in pork products, disrupt international trade, and have significant economic consequences. The African swine fever virus (ASFV), responsible for the disease, is a large double-stranded DNA virus belonging to the Asfarviridae family. During the acute phase caused by highly virulent strains, pigs may experience a high fever without displaying other obvious symptoms initially. In cases of milder infections, the pigs tend to lose weight, become emaciated, and show signs of pneumonia, skin ulcers, and swollen joints.
