Target Information

Equid alphaherpesvirus 4, previously known as Equine herpesvirus 4 (EHV-4), is a member of the Herpesviridae family that causes rhinopneumonitis in horses. It is the leading viral cause of respiratory infections in foals. Similar to other herpesviruses, EHV-4 establishes a lifelong latent infection in affected animals. This upper respiratory disease is confined to infecting the respiratory tract epithelium and its associated lymph nodes.
