Target Information
Bovine Transcription Factor A Mitochondrial (TFAM) is an essential protein that binds mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) to regulate mitochondrial transcription initiation and genome maintenance. It is a key component of the mitochondrial transcription initiation complex, which includes TFB2M and POLRMT, and is required for accurate promoter recognition and transcriptional activation. TFAM bends the mitochondrial light strand promoter DNA into a U-turn shape via its HMG boxes, facilitating the binding and unwinding of DNA. It is crucial for maintaining normal levels of mtDNA and organizing mitochondrial DNA.
