Target Information
Transcription factor IIB p89 (TFIIB p89), also referred to as the small subunit of TFIIB, is a component of the transcription factor IIB complex that is indispensable for the initiation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. This protein plays a critical role in the formation of the pre-initiation complex, interacting with the TATA-binding protein (TBP) and DNA to stabilize the binding of RNA polymerase II to the promoter region. TFIIB p89 contributes to the recognition of the transcription start site and is involved in the opening of the DNA double helix, allowing the polymerase to begin transcription. Its function is essential for the regulation of gene expression across a variety of cellular processes, including cell cycle progression, development, and response to stress.
