Target Information
Mycobacterium is a genus of bacteria belonging to the family Mycobacteriaceae. Mycobacteria are known for their distinctive cell wall structure, which contains mycolic acids. This complex cell wall contributes to their resistance to environmental stresses and antibiotics. Transmission of Mycobacterium infections often occurs through respiratory droplets, direct contact, or ingestion of contaminated materials. Diseases caused by pathogenic Mycobacterium can affect various organs, with tuberculosis primarily affecting the lungs (pulmonary tuberculosis) and leprosy affecting the skin and peripheral nerves.
