Target Information

Porcine alpha antichymotrypsin (pAACT), also known as alpha-1-antichymotrypsin, is a proteinase inhibitor that belongs to the serpin (serine protease inhibitor) superfamily. In pigs, pAACT plays a crucial role in the regulation of protease activity, particularly that of chymotrypsin, a digestive enzyme, and other proteases involved in inflammation and tissue remodeling. This protein is primarily produced in the liver and circulates in the bloodstream, where it acts as an acute-phase reactant, increasing in concentration in response to inflammation or tissue damage. pAACT is also found in extravascular fluids and has been implicated in the protection against excessive proteolysis, which can lead to tissue destruction and inflammation.
