Target Information
Porcine viral diarrhea virus (PVDV), specifically porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) and transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), are significant pathogens causing severe diarrheal disease in pigs. The membrane protein S of PVDV is a crucial surface glycoprotein that plays a key role in the virus's infectivity by mediating host cell attachment and membrane fusion. The S protein is a primary target for antiviral strategies against PVDV due to its critical function in the viral life cycle. Neutralizing antibodies directed against the S protein can prevent the virus from binding to host cells, thereby inhibiting viral entry and infection. Additionally, the S protein is a major immunogen in vaccine development, capable of inducing protective immune responses.
