Target Information
Borrelia afzelii is a species of spirochetes within the Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato complex, which are the causative agents of Lyme disease in humans. This bacterium is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected Ixodes ticks, commonly found in Eurasia. As a target of study and intervention, B. afzelii is known for its ability to evade the host immune system, leading to a range of clinical manifestations, from skin rashes to severe neurological and joint complications. The outer surface proteins (Osp) of B. afzelii, such as OspA, OspB, and OspC, are particularly important for its pathogenesis and are the focus of diagnostic tests and vaccine development efforts.

User Note
- Two methods for rehydration and storage. Procedure A: Rehydrate with 1 mL of 50% glycerol. Antibody concentration will then be 1.0 mg/mL. The rehydrated product is stable for a minimum of 1 year at 2-8°C. Procedure B: Prepare immediately before use: 0.01M acetic acid solution and 0.177M carbonate-bicarbonate solution. Add 0.1 mL of 0.01M acetic acid solution to the antibody. Rotate vial until totally dissolved. Add 0.1 mL of the carbonate-bicarbonate solution and rapidly mix to obtain a clear or opalescent solution. Heat at 37°C for 30 minutes and allow to slowly cool to room temperature. Final concentration is 5.0 mg/mL. It should be stored at -20°C and is stable for a minimum of 1 year.
