Target Information
Chlamydia trachomatis is a bacterium responsible for the most common sexually transmitted infection globally, as well as for trachoma, a leading cause of preventable blindness. The major outer membrane protein (MOMP) of Chlamydia trachomatis is a key antigenic target for both the host immune response and potential therapeutic interventions. MOMP is a highly immunogenic protein that constitutes a significant portion of the outer membrane of the bacterium. It plays a crucial role in the pathogen's attachment to host cells and is involved in the formation of the inclusion body, which is the site of intracellular replication. MOMP's immunodominant nature makes it an attractive target for vaccine development, as it can elicit strong humoral and cellular immune responses.
