Target Information

Zeranol, also known as α-zearalanol, is a synthetic, nonsteroidal estrogen belonging to the resorcylic acid lactone group and is related to mycoestrogens found in Fusarium fungi. It is primarily employed as an anabolic agent in veterinary medicine. The use of zeranol as a growth-promoting anabolic implant in cattle and sheep was approved in 1969 in the United States.
