Target Information

Thiamphenicol is an antimicrobial agent that serves as the methyl-sulfonyl analogue of chloramphenicol. Although it shares a similar spectrum of activity with chloramphenicol, thiamphenicol is 2.5 to 5 times more potent. It is used to treat infectious diseases in cattle, pigs, and poultry. Thiamphenicol is available as a water-soluble glycine hydrochloride for parenteral therapy, and as a premix combining thiamphenicol base with corn starch (in a 4:1 ratio) or another mixer for oral administration.
