Target Information

Shigella dysenteriae is a species within the rod-shaped genus Shigella, characterized as Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, and nonmotile bacteria. S. dysenteriae can invade and replicate in various epithelial cells and enterocytes. Shigella infections can occur due to inadequate monitoring of water and food quality, unsanitary cooking conditions, and poor hygiene practices.
