Animal Hair Metabolomics
Hair, being a readily available biological sample, offers a wider detection window compared to other biological samples like saliva, plasma, and urine. Hair contains functional metabolites, such as amino acids and lipids, and its metabolic composition changes as an individual grows and ages. Using hair allows for long-term monitoring of metabolomic changes in animals. BioVenic has launched a customized service for animal hair metabolomics. Metabolite analysis and identification are conducted on hair segments and samples taken at various time points to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the metabolic characteristics associated with common animal diseases, efficacy of veterinary drugs, or animal health abnormalities. With a combination of diverse detection technologies and analysis platforms, and an R&D team that has focused on animal metabolomics research for many years, we are committed to becoming a reliable partner for scientific researchers.

Animal Hair Metabolomics Customization Services
Through our customized metabolomics-related services, we are able to identify reliable markers of drug intake that are not influenced by long-term perturbations, such as changes in circadian rhythm. This is particularly useful for toxicological studies that focus on analyzing changes in the hair metabolome. The simultaneous use of non-targeted methods to detect hair samples not only facilitates the search for endogenous compounds in animals but also provides insights into the effects of exogenous factors during prolonged environmental exposure. Hair grows relatively slowly, and its metabolite composition reflects its average chemical composition over several months. BioVenic offers customers with one-stop customized solutions for non-targeted metabolomics, as well as targeted services for specific aspects of metabolic analysis based on individual customer requirements.

Animal Hair Metabolomics Applications
Currently, only a few animal metabolomic studies have been performed using animal hair. The focus of hair metabolomics research is to discover biomarkers of genetic diseases in animals and other chronic diseases. It can also reflect the impact of the animal's living environment on its physiological state. These changes are reflected in the evolving metabolome as hair grows gradually. During the growth of animal hair, the dynamic changes in the concentration of multiple metabolites remain relatively stable compared to metabolites in blood, tissue fluid, and urine. This stability enables researchers to observe significant changes more intuitively in functional metabolites. Animal hair is considered a more reliable and potentially diagnostic sample for assessing animal physiological health and chronic diseases.
