R&D Solutions for Weaned Piglet

Inquiry Now

Weaning is one of the most important periods in the pork meat production industry. It is no exaggeration to say that weaned piglets determine the development of swine farming. With professional knowledge and rich experience in animal research, BioVenic not only provides global customers with molecular genetic breeding technology for genetic improvement of piglet vitality and survival, leg weakness and longevity, stress sensitivity, and disease resistance, but also provides veterinary medicine and feed development service while ensuring piglet welfare and sustainable development of the swine farming.

The Importance of Weaning in Swine Farming

Weaning is the process of transitioning piglets from sow nursing to independent feeding. Ideally, piglets should be weaned between the 3rd and 4th week after birth, depending on the weight of the piglets. The causes of physiological disorders in piglets at weaning are mainly determined by the piglets' physiological characteristics, immune status, and stress response. Firstly, when piglets are weaned, the pH value in the stomach rises, bacteria such as E. coli increase, and the microbiota of piglet changes, making them susceptible to diseases; in addition, the digestive tract and digestive glands of piglets are not well developed, digestive enzymes are not secreted enough, and they do not have the ability to digest a large amount of plant-based feed. Secondly, the piglets' own immune system is not fully established and has poor disease resistance. Finally, after leaving the sow, the piglets will have mental and physiological stress, which will also easily lead to diseases in piglets.

Weaned piglets are the most rapidly developing and plastic stage of growing pigs, with the highest feed utilization rate and the most favorable directional breeding. The feeding management of weaned piglets is directly related to the growth and development of piglets, and the central task of this stage is to reduce the growth obstacles of piglets after weaning, prevent and eliminate the invasion of diseases, improve the survival rate of weaning piglets, get the best daily weight gain, and lay a good foundation for fattening pig production.

Our Services

As a custom service provider with professional research platforms, BioVenic is confident to provide technical support related to weaning piglet research projects, using modern molecular tools and artificial intelligence-based data analysis. Our services allow for the direct labeling and selection of genes for superior traits at the molecular level, greatly improving the efficiency and accuracy of animal breeding. We provide drug development for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of common piglet diseases to improve the immune status and maintain the health of piglets. We help research piglet nutrition and provide development services for customized transition diets.

Why Choose Us?

We are committed to helping researchers achieve the following goals,

  • Breeding piglets with excellent growth traits and reducing the weaning age of piglets.
  • Reducing the growth disorders of piglets due to physiological characteristics, immune status, and stress, such as coarse and disheveled coat, low feed intake, lethargy, and easy death.
  • Improving the immune status of weaning piglets and reducing the possibility of piglets being infected with microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites.
  • Reducing the feed consumption rate of weaning piglets and enhancing feed efficiency, which not only realizes the sustainable development of the environment, but also has better economic benefits.
