Prime Editing in Precision Animal Breeding
BioVenic excels in the latest prime editing technology, relying on a highly skilled CRISPR-oriented team and a comprehensive project development process. We offer customized services with a high level of professionalism and feasibility to meet customers' specific research editing requirements for farmed animal genomes.
Background of Prime Editing
Prime-editors (PEs) have emerged as a novel approach to expand base-level DNA editing beyond transition and transversion accomplished by Base Editors (BEs), but also the small mutation with deletion or insertion. The achievement of prime editing relies on two main components, including a prime editor that fuses the Cas9n protein and the reverse transcriptase, and the pegRNA that combines the template and the guide.

What Can PEs Do?
Prime editing is still in its infancy, and it is worth exploring and developing due to its specificity and editing potential. The primer editing system is a significant milestone in the development of universal methods for genome editing. It has less stringent requirements for PAMs due to the varying lengths of RT templates, and it does not involve non-target editing. It has broader development prospects than other editing methods for improving the genome editing and breeding of farmed animals.
Correction of functional gene in farmed animals.
Treatment of mono-genic or polygenic diseases in farmed animals.
Insertion of large DNA fragments in genome.
Improvement of genome editing flexibility and specificity.
Advantages of Prime Editing in Precision Animal Breeding
Service | Comparison | Advantages |
---|---|---|
Prime Editing | CRISPR Genome Editing | Less limited by PAM sequence location. The PAM-to-edit distance can be more than 30 base pairs. |
Base Editing | More versatile and precise. Prime editing is even more precise, allowing for all 12 possible base-to-base changes. | |
Homology Directed Repair | Less by-products and more efficiency. Unexpected indels and other editing results occur less frequently. |
